Welcome to the website of the Smokey Mountain Trumpet Guild The Smokey Mountain Trumpet Guild was formed in 2005 as an affiliated chapter of the International Trumpet Guild (ITG). See the link to their site at the bottom of this page. We aim to foster the appreciation of the trumpet and its many styles and players. The prime mover behind the setting up of our guild was Cathy Leach, and all members are grateful for her expertise, drive and enthusiasm. We welcome all players of any standard from beginner to professional. Membership to the local guild is free but you must be a member of the ITG. However members can bring guests to our functions, and if you are not a member and wish to come to one of them, simply contact us by clicking here. Our activities have included professional performers and teachers who have given concerts and master classes, and social events like an annual pool party. A Welcome from the President Welcome to the Smokey Mountain Trumpet Guild website. My name is Cathy Leach, President of the Smokey Mountain Trumpet Guild. I am Professor of Trumpet at the University of Tennessee, Principal Trumpet with the Brasswind Quintet, and Principal Trumpet with the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra. I am currently serving the International Trumpet Guild as a member of the Board of Directors until 2011, so please email me (cleach@utk.edu) ideas on how the ITG and local chapter can serve you. The Smokey Mountain Chapter Please allow me to introduce you to The Smokey Mountain Trumpet Guild, an active affiliate chapter of the International Trumpet Guild, whose mission is to promote communications among trumpet players around the world and to improve the artistic level of performance, teaching, and literature associated with the trumpet. The Smokey Mountain chapter is open to any and all members of the International Trumpet Guild. Amateur and professional players, students, comeback players, and all those who love the trumpet and trumpet music, we invite you to join! Realizing that we have many unique and gifted trumpeters in this area, this chapter was created in 2005 to help us all realize our trumpet playing potential, to let us all know what each other is doing, and to find ways to help each other in our musical quests. Current officers in addition to myself are Durward Leeper, Vice President, and Tina Erickson, Membership Coordinator. We have over 40 members, and hope to post short biographies of each member on this website very soon. The SMTG chapter aims at quarterly events. In past these events have included a recital and masterclass with former Canadian Brass trumpeter Ronald Romm and his wife Avis Romm, pianist, masterclasses with Chase Sanborn, Doc Severinsen, and Gordon Mathie. We also have an unforgettable yearly pool party at the home of Vice President Durward Leeper, at which we have a vigorous outdoor trumpet ensemble reading session conducted by Cathy Leach and Tina Erickson. To join You can join online at the International Trumpet Guild website www.trumpetguild.org. Membership dues are $30 per year for students, $50 per year for regular memberships. There are no additional dues to join the local chapter! Please visit the ITG website to see what benefits are available to ITG members, including the quarterly ITG Journal, annual CDs and supplements, and best of all, the chance to meet and get to know thousands of other trumpeters across the world. If at all possible plan to go to an ITG Conference and/or ITG regional events. We will post information on local events on this site. Enjoy browsing this site to find out what our Smokey Mountain ITG chapter does. We hope to meet you soon! Here is a link to the website of the International Trumpet Guild. Website: Gabriel Jacobs |
